Hello people, please I need your help on this subject. I have a great idea for a new social networking website it not like facebook or myspace, its just different and my research shows this idea will grow faster than ever but I need to build it from the scratch myself I dont know much web design or programming but I heard that there are social networking softwares I can use like drupal or Joomla, please advise me on how to start build this website, step by step procedures, and length of time it will take. I know programming is the key to socila network design, what is the easiest tool I can use to get this off the ground, thanks.

step 1) hire a lot of web engineers and developers

step 2) write very good description of what you want, call it a design document

step 3) pay web engineers and developers lot of money

step 4) hire a producer to "manage" them

If you want to do it on a budget I would suggest Joomla! (http://www.joomla.org) and a combination of Community Builder (http://www.joomlapolis.com/). This will get you off the ground very quickly. Its all open source so will keep the costs down to pretty much nil.

The first poster was scaring you off as I know a lot of people who have had success with this kind of setup. You can also add adsense modules etc to earn revenue from it. A good source of extensions for both Joomla and CB is: http://extensions.joomla.org
