Are social networking websites damaging youth's health?

Health no maybe there well being! With all the creeps online!

Are social networking websites damaging youth's health?myspace.com pets

No. Except maybe constant staring to the screen - it might be bad for eyes.

What is the most popular social networking website in Malaysia to be part of ?

There are many social networking websites, i.e. Facebook, Friendster, Myspace, its just that am wondering which one serves you the best and why?

What is the most popular social networking website in Malaysia to be part of ?tiny myspace

Myspace is better than the rest you mentioned. It's fast and user friendly. You can also find a lot of Malaysians there.

There's also one website made by Malaysian, but it is in Malay language, called Myrakan.com.

Are social networking sites dangerous ?

As long as you are careful about who you associate it with I don't think so. I used to be part of facebook, but I quit my membership because I hardly go to it. I liked facebook because it's easier to use than Myspace.

Is there room for another social networking site?

I have a friend who is spending a fortune develop a new social networking site. He's attitude is there is always room in the market but I'm not so sure? I know people want something new and sometimes some of the sites becuase they are so big not don' really have that personal touch. You know that saying 15mins of fame or 1 gig of privacy?...Your thoughts are welcome :-)

Is there room for another social networking site?cute myspace

Nope. New social networking sites have done their "3 months" are now suffering at staggering money losses (server costs, traffic, bandwidth, no advertisments to offset costs)

these type of things are "fads" and as with every fad, they are good for a short time and fade away. Unless you have a major media advertising back up (ie myspace is owned by Fox) he will be SOL.

Is there room for another social networking site?custom myspace myspace.com

I would say yes and no.

If he has a new spin on it, yes. For example supporttube.com is a new spin on youtube.com.
sure theres room, as long as it offers something new and is done well.

im not a big fan of myspace, it seems full of goths to me. i would join one where rock music was not allowed.... but thats just me bieng fussy.
Of course there's room, it would need something original going for it to make it stand out and last.

Here's a site that has a lot of information like this:

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entiti...

My husband is really into social networking sites...?

He has pages on myspace, facebook, facebox, tagged, Hi5, ringo, and amigos.com, he spends a LOT of time looking at pictures of other people. Some are just random people but most of the pictures are really pretty 18-yr old girls posing coquettishly for the camera. Also he emails them, leaves messages on their blogs, is in chatrooms, and they IM each other. Keep in mind these are girls he has never met in real life and says he has no intention of ever meeting, they are just "online friends". I am just horribly jealous, I don't know what to think he insists it's just a way to pass the time and kill boredom. He has been working sporadically, he will work a few days then have a few days off. On his days off, I find out that he just surfs these "social networking" sites all day instead of doing something productive like small repairs around the house or helping me with the household chores. What do you think, am I overreacting? is it just a harmless male thing or is it infidelity?

My husband is really into social networking sites...?myspace background

What your husband is doing is sick. Yes it is infidelity. I say, kick him out. How do you know he never meets them? On line friends my you know what. If my husband did that, I would be at the lumber yard looking for a two by four to bust over his head (don't do this) and would then call the cops on him (how does he know the girls are 18) and then take him for every dime he had. This is "fun"? How old is this guy? If he wants to kill boredom he can help you around the house, play golf, get involved in a community service group, there are tons of things. This is just too wierd. I would lose any interest in a guy that did this. Ask his Mom if she thinks it is infedelity. If he gets angry that you did, then you know he knows it is wrong. If he doesn't know it is wrong then something is wrong with him, if he knows it is wrong and does it anyway, he is what is known as a sociopath.

My husband is really into social networking sites...?flash myspace myspace.com

Yes you are its all fun so give the guy a break.
something he enjoys to do with his time. a way to get away from society temporarly and relax. have a good time.
I don't think your overreacting at all. I would be very upset if it were my husband doing this. Have you tried to ask him why he feels the need to look for these other women to socialize with? That might be a good place to start. Good Luck to you. I hope everything works out OK!
I use to think that it was all innocent, no big deal, it's just a computer. Until the nights got longer the time we spent together shorter. Then one day I was looking for a sight that I was on something to do with my kids and boom. Somehow a conversation that he had with a women was saved. Now he could have intentionally done that. Who knows. In my case it was more than just casual conversation. Just be careful and keep your guard up. We are divorced now and he is with the girl from the Internet. Good luck. Please don't let this scare you. I don't know what kind of relationship y'all have. I just know the Internet can be a really good thing and a really bad one. Take care and good luck to you. I wish you the best.
If you feel that your marriage is in jeopardy because of his actions, you need to tell him how you feel. Come right and tell him how you feel and that you wish he would stop. Sometimes I don't think men take our "subtle" hints of us wanting them NOT to do something. IF he continues to do this, ask for marriage counseling. I am also an avid Myspace %26amp; Myyearbook person - and I am in a longterm relationship...but I do post that I am in a relationship and only looking for friendship and pen pals. Does he state that he is single? IF so, that is a red alert that something needs to be done. If not, he could just be harmlessly "flirting" with others - knowing that they are "unobtainable".. Maybe just a fantasy! Let me know how it affects you! Hang in there!
I don't think I would like it if my husband was emailing 18 year old girls. And if he is just bored and looking for friends, why not chat with guys as well? Some questions to ponder and I would continue to talk to him about it. It just doesn't make sense to me at all.
You are not overreacting. Your marriage has some issues (no offense, all marriages do).

I would suggest marriage counseling. Not all counselors are good. If you go to one and you think they might be bad, then they probably are.

There are plenty of more healthy ways for your husband to cure his boredom. How about you two do some new hobbies together? Good luck. It isn't the end of the world or your marriage.

But, if he is not receptive to changing this habit, you have some choices to make.
...it's harmless. If you want to him to know it bothers you, just do the same %26amp; make him jealous.......you can start by emailing me...lol...!! ..(seriously, you can email me anytime)... - Bruce
Get rid of him, he is a pig!
Ewww, not cool. You are not overreacting. Boredom can be the Devil's playground, so he needs to find a new hobby. This is something you definitely should address. Anything that your husband is doing that could affect your relationship in a negative way should be avoided at all costs. Good for you for recognizing that this is a problem, and for wanting to do something about it. Stick to your guns girl!
It is a problem that is becoming rampant these days and has caused much hurt among spouses.

In this case, he is not yet addicted but definitely there are seeds to addiction. For the moment they are just probably meeting a "need" like he says, it's boredom. Or perhaps, it is more than that. But fantasies on the net is not easy for you to compete with.

It is probably time that you have an honest talk with him. At the same time, explore with him the possibility of other activities you can both do together so he is less "bored".

In case you find he is also into porn, there is a good book you can read. "End Porn Addiction"

UK Government Plans To Monitor Social Networking Sites And Forums...?

There was a small piece in today's Metro or London Lite (not sure which) about Government plans to set up a new department which will be tasked specifically with monitoring internet websites such as Facebook and other social networking sites (this one will probably be included) in order to 'ascertain what people are saying' and to adjust policy accordingly. Can anyone find me a link? And, do you think this is a good idea, or another sinister move? Would you feel comfortable giving your honest views on Government if you knew the Government where actually reading them and compiling data based on your views?

UK Government Plans To Monitor Social Networking Sites And Forums...?celeb myspace

They are running out of ideas on how to snoop on us, and control us yet more. This government has done more to bring in a `Big Brother` State than anyone....and they haven`t finished yet by a long way.

UK Government Plans To Monitor Social Networking Sites And Forums...?myspace quiz myspace.com

April Fools has gone surely..
If it could change things for the better it is a good thing, but somehow I don't believe the information they would get would be used for purposes of improving the lives of the people in the UK.
It really wouldn't bother me if they did or not.
Another example of Bushit/Blair totalitarianism,a bad idea
At least they would be listening. I know some one who has a Facebook for their Cat though, so they may be thrown off course a tad if they rely on all they read.

What a great Government Job, getting to hang out on Facebook and not getting the sack for wasting the firms time. I shall be checking the job section and applying for a Job on that task force.
Its media lies, believe me if this was gonna happen itd be over the proper papers (i.e. guardian, independent)
Policy will not be adjusted according to what we say. What made you say that?

Would I feel comfortable?

There is a standing invitation for any of my representatives to come by my house anytime to here my views.

I doubt anyone will show up.
Do you think this has started just now what you like, what's happened now is it legal to monitor social movement eg; internet, phone, etc.

So now you can be taken to court, where before you could not be taken to court under privy laws, can you not see that you are losing all your rights.
Dictatorship, not Democracy rules the UK. Fascism at it's greatest under Herr Brown.

Is it reasonable to filter social networking websites like Friendster and Myspace in universities?

I am a student of the University of the Philippines - Visayas, a constituent university of the University of the Philippines System. The administration is planning to filter such sites. We have a debate activity in one of our classes and I was assigned in the affirmative side. The resolution is: The University of the Philippines administration should ban and filter social networking sites in all its campuses. I am hoping someone could help me defend this resolution.

Social networking sites, and how many profiles is too much?bad girls club myspace.com

What someone else would find proper for you might not be what you want; I suggest create a profile on each of the sites and check out the features and the community; your experience will guide you best to find what networking site you belong in.
All information you would not like others to know about your or that can be used against you are often adviced to be be shared on the social networking sites. For example information you would not want strangers to know about you should not be shared... You are to treat everyone on the social network site as strangers atleast until you get to know them and even when you get to know them you have to be cautious with your information because the guy on the other end may not be as honest as you are about there identity.

However, I must add that social site have been know to record great success with some people but nevertheless you don't leave a burning fire on your roof top and go on to bed...

Myspace is a good one but you may have to surf a little on the other sites to decise what you really want and which meets your need.

Good luck

Who will be willing to give my new social networking site a chance?

I am 20yrs old and a entrepreneur. I am in the process of launching my very own new innovative social networking website! This isn't spam or anything, I am a real person.

I have grown tired of the limited possibilities on Facebook, and Myspace and have decided to create a site to share with the world.

The name of the site is howyoulivingonline.com and it will serve as your home on the internet! Howyoulivingonline is a social networking site that interconects the world while taking you on the ride of your life. I am all about giving users an experience and not a whole bunch of features that don't really serve a purpose.

Howyoulivingonline.com is innovation at its best.

I know some people believe that Facebook is the best, and can't be topped, but nothing last forever. Afterall. aren't you guys and gals tired of having your privacy invaded by Facebook and being spammed by Myspace?

Look out, howyoulivingonline.com coming soon to a web bowser near you!!!1

the last part kinda is the biggie - you need a lot of press about new social network sites because everyone's already established. After all, myyearbook, yuwie, xanga, facebook, myspace, and so many more exist - why would people sign up for a new one unless its 100% innovative and their friends are already on it?

I'm thinking there is a possibility that if it is happening EVERY TIME that the person being rescued is not you, but the person you are chatting with! If the conversations are business related and private, take them out of the semi public areas and into an office... if it's idle chit chat, take it to the break room. If you're standing in the aisle outside people's cubes, you're being disruptive.. get back to work :)

I am creating a social networking website.. Do I have to patent my idea to keep it protected?

Dear Yahoo! Members,

My partner's and I have recently invested in a server, and are creating a small, but unique social networking idea that will be initially a local system for local members of nearby schools.

Furthermore, in the short future, once the site is online and up, I intend to create a Business Plan and look for angel investors.

I was wondering, since everything will be going public and everything will be revealed in a business plan, is it normal for people to patent such ideas before anything is public or has been presented? Or is it impossible to patent the features of a website?

If this is all possbible, do any of you have any idea of the realistic price I would be paying, and how long the approval turnaround is for such a thing?

Please share your thoughts, and ideas, as I would love to understand and execute this properly.

Looking for your guidance.

P.S. Not sure if this matters, but I am based in Canada, and not the USA.

You can protect the technology using a javascript called no right click. This will block anyone from seeing the coding that makes the site work. Aside form that you are protected by installing the statement at the bottom of evey page:

This is a legal copyright world wide protection for electronic media. Hope this helps

This might not help you too much, but I only use social networking sites (both facebook and myspace) to keep in touch with people I've met. Most of my friends are from college but its always exciting to find and reconnect with friends from high school and earlier too. Because I use these sites to connect with friends, I believe the members I connect with are 100% credible. I've met them and know them, and they aren't trying to sell me on something.

Which is a good social networking site for a person trying to get into finance career?

My boyfriend is a Ph.D in physics but wishes to take up finance as a career as a next step. He is working but also looking for courses that can help him enter finance related jobs. Can social networking sites like linkedin help? He needs some sound guidance and needs to build up some contacts to help him. Thanks

Linked in can really help. He can also dip his toes into the water by going through temp agencies like Robert Half Accounting or Account Temps to try out different types of finance jobs and get PAID before he picks out a new career.

Also, his college where he got his Ph.D., even if it was years ago, will usually be thrilled to help an alumni change career directions (they someday hope he'll donate money once he's successful), and they can possibly get him into the annual on campus job fairs. They will definitely have lots of job connections.

It's really not hard to develop a social network site but you have to find a niche. Focus on what myspace and facebook don't have or offer. Find a way you can steal users from there with addition features not found on these other sites. The one determining factor that'll make or break you is going to be marketing and advertising. You'll have to get your name out there. Use your accounts on myspace and facebook to post bulletins about your new site. Post topics on Digg.com and Reddit.com when you finish your site. You could probably find some help on elance also if you need some assistance with programming. Be specific on what you need and you'll get some cheap quotes. That should help get you started. If you're really serious about this too I wouldn't mind helping, I'm a website designer/programmer. I've got some free time recently.
First, learn to code, or hire someone who does (and don't get cheap on them or they'll pull out mid-project).
You need a web hosting service which supports online payments like, Master Card, Visa %26amp; Pay Pal. It is very important that your service to be uptime. It means that you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and your customers can view your website whenever they input your website address. If your hosting service is not uptime it is a real hell!

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I鈥檓 sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting %26amp; I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. (One of my websites is an online business site)

They offer an installing service called "Fantastico". By using this service, you can easily create your own shopping carts.

What motivates and attracts you most in social networking sites?

What kind of technological features are still missing?

What attracts you to social networking sites and what features are still missing?funny videos myspace

You need to be unique or you are "just another one of those network sites".

Most people are attracted to a social networking site by referral from a friend, or they are looking for someone who hasn't been heard from. Social sites are not new so if someone invites me to a new one I usually just reply with the URL of my old one, without even visiting the site.

There is seldom anything unique or even different. If it requires a long registration then forget it. For security though, I do like the practice of some sites requiring that everyone phone or SMS a message in. Non-verified people should be restricted, but allowed to see how the site works. I also like the old Tribal Voice program where you could absolutely suspend, and ban Spammers and Stalkers.

More features are still missing, than exist today. What has been added in the last 10 years? Honestly, look at what the old Firefly network offered back in the early 1990's. You could use html tags, chat worked in a browser, and all private messages were saved in an archive, so you had an option to save on the web or to your desktop. Even the avatars that Yahoo are using now were already available 10 years ago.

Single people want to see actual, recent, photographs though. In the singles market you only need to market to the females, as the males will follow.

I am sure that you will get a lot of good suggestions here, but if you really don't know how much of a market you are missing here then I am not going to tell you for free.

Just look at the success or failures of such sites as:

myspace.com

classmates.com

friendster.com

tickle.com

belief.net

sherdog.com

ancestry.com

match.com

lonelyplanet.com

--and then get back to us about how your service is going to be any different and why it is even worth taking the time to fill out yet another registration, learn a new system, etc. The desire for social networking online is fast declining due to trolling, stalkers, and misrepresentation. Anyone who is going to operate this type of business better take a serious interest in security.

I am a businessman and an artist who would love to connect with other people who are genuinely looking to work on projects together. We used to do this 15 years ago and because so many qualified people were able to contribute, we could complete a 6 month project in 2-3 days. I would be interested in a site that could just use a solid verification process, and even a live customer support department with a feedback meter like they use on EBay. Security is the main deterrent to the explosion of E-commerce. I would even be interested in paying for such a service after a trial period to see if it was what it promised. We have learned to believe very little of what we read on the Internet.

We use the Internet as a tool for communication but we do not allow anyone who we haven't met into our circles. We did 15 years ago when most people had their name, address, and phone number on their page or profile. That was safe at that time. Now it isn't.

What attracts you to social networking sites and what features are still missing?myspace commentes myspace.comAfter reviewing all the answers the consensus seems to be that the most important issues in a Social Networking Site are: functionality, security, and progressive improvements that adjust to the wants and needs of the members. um what attracts..pretty much all the things on myspace...a profile that you can express who you are, pictures of yourself, songs, comments, messaging, instant messaging, and all that stuff.

stuff that needs work or i hate...is tops, i hate them because people fight over whos where on your top and I hate bullitens I mean there cool and everything but some of the things people post is wierd...What needs to change is your privacy and safety..youll get freind requests from people you dont even know and safety because alot of people put pics of them naked or in there underwear or something..
I like using them because I can keep up with friends (as long as they keep their profiles up to date). It's also a good way to catch up with people I haven't talked to in awhile and keep up with bands I like (on Myspace). I like on Facebook that they tell you whose profiles have recently been updated so you know whose to look at if you want the latest news. I also like the applications that Facebook added. It's more stuff to keep you amused and keep you coming back. I like Myspace's customization options better since you can do all sorts of things to your page layout that you cannot do on Facebook.
I like ones that have a wide range of people, the people are searchable, and modifiable profile, either through htm/html or an application. One's with little or no hacking of profiles and no spam are good too.
C'est blue sites are kinda like myspace.

They have good things but their bananas need more work in my opinion.

Great question!
Well they all have something that's keep coming back. I love the way Face Book has security features for a user to use in order to protect their account. My Space is a little too open to viruses and other unwanted attacks. Face Book is now starting to get on the ball with the profile customization game. Something MySpace and BlackPlanet has done pretty much it seems like since the beginning. Overall, I like all three, but I had to get rid of Black Planet due to personal issues, I don't use My Space because all my friends on there use Face Book or Yahoo and it's makes no sense to log into three or four different accounts to talk to the same people. Face Book is getting better, but it's starting to allow too much which in turn will eventually make it into something like MySpace.
I like the ones that give you a chance to rate pictures and profiles. When you do you can earn points toward prizes. I don't like a boring site.
Many of them are missing standards compliant code with good id/class attributes to hook the CSS onto.
The two websites that are most common to go to are FaceBook and MySpace. A couple years ago, it was Xanga. Most people go onto MySpace to keep in touch with their close friends or far distance friends same as FaceBook, but its harder to find friends on there, they are able to create their own homepages. However, I am starting to see the competition between MySpace and Facebook.

They find ways to make things better and attract more people to their website. That's the number one thing that bothers me. Like companies of cell phones. This one has a camera, this one has internet, this one has a camera, internet, and its a iphone, this one etc.

Other websites other than myspace and facebook, like hi5 or Tag tries to attract more people by copying their ideas. They should start making their own ideas, and make the networking links easier to use.
myspace is good..

BUT SOMETIMES THE PROGRAMERS SUCK!
Nothing attracts me, maybe there's some way to make it more convenient otherwise it's just more time spent (wasted?) sitting in front of the PC.
Good reasons

1.) To find others with similar interests

2.) postings of your interests

3.) Photo sharing

Bad Ideas

1.) Security of minors sneaking in

2.) Too much vulgar profanity

3.) Pages getting too filled with flash, videos, junk
The topics are what attracts me. That and if my friends are logged on to that site.
I use facebook as my main soial networking site. I like using it to keep close contact with my friends and family who live abroad. It's also a good way to find old classmates/friends. Another good feature it has is finding new friends who have similar interests as you. However, someone who is planning on using a social networking site should always be careful about what kinds of friends they meet online. While it's a good idea, it can have dangerous aspects.
what attracts me to social networking sites is it is another way to stay in touch with friends and family. they offer a way to meet people and find out information. what better way to find out about a company or location than to ask someone who works or lives there.

if two sites are similar i would choose the place that has similar values and goals to my own. if i want to stay in touch with certain friends and they are only on one website then i might consider joining that one. whereas if i want to meet people then i am more willing to try a site my friends are not on.

there need to be better safeguards for privacy and safety. some information in someone's profile would be difficult to confirm but other things would not be as hard. in addition, some information is not as relevant and does not matter as much if a person exagerates to make themselves sound better. age is a key area minors are often able to get into content that may be age inappropriate. they can put themselves at risk for being targeted. granted parents need to know what their children are doing, but many sites have insufficient safegards to keep children safe. even adults are not always safe because social networking sites do not use the available technology and try to make safety a priority.

profiles can be personalized, but only to an extent. some questions only allow for certain answers but do not allow people to type their own more appropriate answer or skip the question.

most sites allow you to personalize your profile, send email, chat, send instant messages, save profiles/ make a list of friends. sites that do not have all the "usual" features would benefit from adding them.
What motivates and attracts you most in social networking sites?

-What motivates and attracts me is the sheer volume of spam, pop-ups, and excessive ad placement because everyone knows I care more about free ringtones and iPods than I do about staying in touch with my friends and family on a social networking site.

What kind of technological features are still missing?

-Cybergasms...
It's an excuse to post up a photo of yourself in a way that doesn't seem overly self-centered.

I like the idea of something meant solely to increase a person's amount of socializing...

What I think they could use is more music... LOL.
I agree with the first post you got. Too much HTML gives really long, annoying load times from people who don't realize how annoying it is to wait for them to load all their dumb videos. Facebook has done a good job stopping that, and the adds. I just wish they didn't give you all those updates about what your friends were doing. It's kind of creepy.
A critical mass of people I know combined with some unique features would pull me towards a new site. I currently use orkut and see no complling reason to migrate out of it, since all my friends are already here.
The best thing about social networking sites is the ability to re-connect with old friends while meeting new ones. It's also a good way to find out about people that you are newly aquitanited with.

The most important technological feature that is missing is the quality control of these sites. There is way too much spammers and fakers on these sites. If only there were a way to limit one account per person... but that'd be too costly.
Social networks are considered for me as the best window on the whole world. Best thing in it is letting all cultures and extremely different way of thinking meet together and each and everyone finds a common point or at least cross roads with different ppl and various cultures. It breaks all the barriers and help nations/ generations to get closer despite all politicians' actions and all wars all over the world.. I'm sure u get What i mean..

what missing?? .. well i don't know .. for me .. as a simple end user .. so far so good.. just let us keep what we reached and benefit the most of it.. hoping for a better peaceful world.
We like it because our friends are on it, we use whats popular myspace is the popular one so dont bother trying to make something else cause myspace will probably add that feature anyway.
I think what attracted me the most about MySpace was being able to express myself. It was also great that I have regained contact with some of my high school friends and have made some new friends.
I've made some really great friends on Yahoo's 360. (I refuse to use myspace - waaaay too many children, perverts and viruses.) I've 'met' people from many different walks of life, from other countries, and found that we're all pretty much the same. We're all looking for that human connection.

The technology provided is fine - I just wish it worked on a consistent basis.
What attracts me to a social networking website like Myspace is that you can find virtually any of your friends on there. You can also find and socialize with other people, search through music, and check out videos. A big plus with a website such as myspace is that they allow you to change the layout without much restriction from them.

However, what's missing from Myspace is security and stability. Millions of people log onto Myspace everyday and the system can sometimes fail and keep you from accessing the "home" page once you are logged in. Also, the threat of online offenders is ever present. Plus, there are currently too many scams that can easily fool you into giving up your password.
The fact that I can link up with my friends without the hassles of email or phone calls.

We need more technology guarding against child predators. The last thing I need is my son to get buttraped by a gay pedophile.
If I were college age, I certainly would have both myspace and facebook; but now, I am way too busy for that. I will be putting up advertising sites for my videos and other stuff, but that's just to get 'presence' and not really go into it on a daily basis.

Technologically missing? It's too easy for abusers, flamers, and other obnoxious unfriendly people to get on the sites (including Yahoo! Answers). You can delete and block but they just come back under another name...

Too bad there isn't an Internet etiquette course you need to pass (and I don't mean just agreeing to the "Terms and Conditions"). Once you pass the course, you get an assigned ID which can only be associated with one e-mail. That should bring civility back...

Mind you, I am not against well thought out arguments. I am against people who resort to name calling and or other put-downs as opposed to giving a succinct argument with data backing up any claims and counter-claims.
I like meeting new people! Talk about all kind of things, checking messages...
what motivates me? the ability to stay in touch. what annoys me is myspace and the rediculous layouts with too many bells and whistles. simplicity is best. in designing your site basically copy facebook. use them as the blueprint. but skip the new applications features. in terms of your using us as unpaid guinea pigs and the yahoo answers forumsas a market research tool, my feedback is that you should be more upfront, its transparent and makes me want to avoid your product.
sites like myspace don't allow all html.
What attracts me? Why the hot chicks (presumably) of course!

What features are missing? Holograms of the naked hot chicks you're corresponding with, of course!

Are people who use social networking websites sad?

I used to use both Facebook and my-space and frankly I found them to be a waste of time. Why are they so popular? At uni I got moaned at by other members of my course for my rather frank blogs and all my mates kept trying to lead their social lives via these rather than giving me a call. I stopped my membership because I was fed up with the grief and wanted my friends to get in touch personally. The only good side was that you could browse pictures of fit girls and the uni. This gave me the opportunity to have a good old **** over some of their more risque pictures. Oh Jenny, I miss you! Other than that it sucked!

Are people who use social networking websites sad?blocked myspace

Yes, it's a lazing was of communicating. There's no humanity to it; it's just a medium people use to promote their self-image. I have never used Facebook in my life, I went to sign up once and got bored half way through. I used myspace a few years ago in university and the sole purpose of it was to ignore people I already ignored even when they weren't around. For example, I'd add someone who I knew vaguely but knew was a twat all the same, and when I got the mandatory, 'hi how r u i've seen you around but weve never spoken' I wouldn't write back, purely as a method of keeping them at bay. Another problem was my heightened sense of bravado whenever I was on one; I would go on to group photos of girls and give them all a rating out of ten and leave comments telling people to get a life when I knew the first thing they did when they got home was log in.

Are people who use social networking websites sad?girl myspace myspace.com

They're not bebo, that's for sure!
It's a phase. I hope it will wear off!
it depends what you use it for i agree its stupid to use it in place of something like the phone or msn. For example when u see wall posts that are a second apart its pretty stupid. But i find it useful for somethings. For example when people aren't on msn or at home you can leave them a post that they can get at anytime. its easier and more convenient that calling an answering machine
I use them to keep in contact with family and friends. People have busy lives and usually aren't free at the same time as eachother so its easier to just leave a note or message for them to read when they have time. I however am not a skank though and do not post half naked pictures of me and use it for popularity to feel loved. Some teenagers are just shallow and need a million strangers knowing their life to feel special.
I never used social networking, its just a fad. Plus I don't have any real friends want to talk to anyway.
.....so now you're on Yahoo Answers asking questions that don't really need an answer......hmmmmm.
I agree that these social networks are taking the personal out of relationships. What is so great about contacting somebody via such impersonal means when it is so much nicer to hear somebodies voice? I far prefer a more personal contact than this impersonal atmosphere of the social networks like Facebook and MySpace. I even prefer the phone to chat vehicles unless I can use the voip with a webcam.

I don't think looking at photos and having sex by yourself is really very healthy. Why not go out and find a real girl you can have sex with? You don't have to have a relationship as lots of "enlightened" young women enjoy the occasional one night stand as much as any guy! I also don't know who Jenny is, but if you miss her that much why not contact her and set up a in-person meeting? Just a thought!

Good luck and have a great day.
Personally, I use Yuwie for networking, but only because it pays for everything you do like creating a profile, blogging, viewing your friends pages and the like.

Not looking to establish intimate relationships or anything like that.

Is Yahoo Answers a 'Social Networking' site?

... or is it merely a gateway to social networking?

What are your views ... likes and dislikes ... of sites such as MySpace, Bebo, Facebook, Y!360 and how do they relate to Q%26amp;A sites and general forums such as Y!Answers, MyLot and others?

Is Yahoo Answers a 'Social Networking' site?myspace comments

Regardless of the questions and answers we see here, this site is not meant to be a social networking site. (There are chat rooms and singles sites for that type of thing).

Even if Y! Answers were meant for social networking, so many people have been stalked, harrassed, etc. that they are hiding their questions and answers, as well as their contacts. Many are not allowing fans or email any more.

I think it was better before the networks started (even though I've been rather fortunate with most of the people in mine). It seems to have created more problems (again stalkers, etc.).

Many, many people don't even come back to choose the best answers to their own questions any more. It's like they post a question, then disappear until they're ready to post further questions--and don't really care what the answers are.

I opened a MySpace, and never returned. I started a 360, but have not completed it, and don't know if I ever will (it remains visible to myself, only). I admit ignorance to Facebook and Bebo--they are Greek to me...

I truly hope that more people are realizing how dangerous the internet can be--especially the young kids who pretend to be adults. For that matter, 'adults' are still vulnerable to all sorts of sickos...

Social networking should be done out in public, with real, live people who you can see, hear, etc. Okay?

Is Yahoo Answers a 'Social Networking' site?myspace codes myspace.com

I think its a gateway to social networking..
Wow!! lots of heavy questions.

1. Is Yahoo Answers a 'Social Networking' site? Answer: Yes, for me. I am also learning a lot from this site; such as, learn how to canning all my vegetables, and learn how the other feels.

2. What are your views ... likes and dislikes?

Answer: I like it a lot.

3. What are your views of sites such as MySpace, Bebo, Facebook, Y!360?

Answer: I don't use any of these site yet. I am not ready to expose myself to everyone in the world yet. Still hiding.

4. How do they relate to Q%26amp;A sites? general forums such as Y!Answers

Answer: Except Y 360掳 that it kind of relate, I don't know anything about the rest.

5.MyLot and others?

Answer: Don't understand this question. You lost me here!!!
No, it is not a networking site; it can be a gateway if used properly.

Step by step on how to build a social networking website?

Hello people, please I need your help on this subject. I have a great idea for a new social networking website it not like facebook or myspace, its just different and my research shows this idea will grow faster than ever but I need to build it from the scratch myself I dont know much web design or programming but I heard that there are social networking softwares I can use like drupal or Joomla, please advise me on how to start build this website, step by step procedures, and length of time it will take. I know programming is the key to socila network design, what is the easiest tool I can use to get this off the ground, thanks.

Step by step on how to build a social networking website?i love new york myspace

You can find out step by step guide on how to create a website at http://oktutorial.com/webdesign.htm .

You can even earn from adsense using your website.

Step by step on how to build a social networking website?myspaces-com myspace.com

step 1) hire a lot of web engineers and developers

step 2) write very good description of what you want, call it a design document

step 3) pay web engineers and developers lot of money

step 4) hire a producer to "manage" them

step 5) pray they'll be finished before you run out of money

You thought I was joking, didn't you?
If you want to do it on a budget I would suggest Joomla! (http://www.joomla.org) and a combination of Community Builder (http://www.joomlapolis.com/). This will get you off the ground very quickly. Its all open source so will keep the costs down to pretty much nil.

The first poster was scaring you off as I know a lot of people who have had success with this kind of setup. You can also add adsense modules etc to earn revenue from it. A good source of extensions for both Joomla and CB is: http://extensions.joomla.org

Hope that helps and good luck in your new venture.

Sims Castaway (PC) help--social networking chapter, think I messed up.?

Hi. Haven't found any posts about this, hoping someone can help. I'm in the social networking chapter and am unable to complete the goal of lighting the trash pit fires to befriend one of the four peeps. . . I burned them up some time earlier before the quest was opened. I can't finish the goal without lighting the trash pits, so what do I do?? I've tried befriending through regular means (talk, play, entertain, etc), but no go. Help, please. I'm willing to replay from an earlier chapter as well if someone knows how to go about doing that. Thanks!!

Sims Castaway (PC) help--social networking chapter, think I messed up.?myspace commentes

Hmmm. I really don't know. I mean, there are a lot of theories I've heard from other people that you have to get relations with the other sim up to 50, and then you don't have to do their little task, but I haven't tried that. Try to get a 50 or more, preferable build relations to where you two become friends. If that fails, and you can't get passed it, and you have already saved since you made the mistake, you will have to restart your game, by creating a new profile on the main page and everything. The game developers obviously didn't think that glitch through.

Also, if you DO restart, it won't take you long to get to where you are now, being that you already knows whats going on, and what to do. I played story mode a second time in about 2 hours...

Hope that helps! :)

Oh, and I prefer cleaner sites, like His Holy Space over MySpace any day. MySpace is a cesspool of spam and porn, honestly.

Pick an interest that you have that you would be interested in starting a community for. You could pick something you weren't interested in but you probably wouldn't be as successful.

Once you have picked your niche, start a free community on a site like www.thevillage.com or hire someone to use open source scripts. You could add Google Adsense to your site but I would recommend signing up for an affiliate program and selling something that your members would actually buy.

I wouldn't say it was "easy" money, but if you can rally some members to your site it could snowball into something special.

Best of luck.

I dont think they are, besides u should have posted this in the POLLS sec. Anyway, honestly speaking; Facebook and Myspace kind of help you out. You get to know different people from all over the world, which indirectly means you get to know the world better. You learn to respect people's opinions %26amp; privacy and you also get to kill time. So I hope you got your answer.

Do you think social networking sites are a good place?

Watchdog OFCOM have finally realised that youngsters are bypassing the age restrictions to get fuller use of sites such as facebook %26amp; bebo

Good morning ... I have a teenage son who uses bebo and i do restrict his Internet time .

I have also net nannied his computer but i have to admit some of the stuff he has received has been unsuitable .

Kids are very clever these days and much more technically advanced than my generation .

I always go through his history and check and pull him if there is anything unsuitable .

Social networking sites can be good but a whole different world can opened up if kids bypass the restrictions that are there to protect them .

Do you think social networking sites are a good place?best myspace myspace.com

Maybe sometimes there good and sometimes they are very bad.

Ther parent should take care, that they won鈥瞭 be misused
I don't think they should be used by children, they have plenty of opportunities to meet other young people at school etc.
morning lovely bunches

i think spegali is right, although kids play out less these days so i suppose they use the internet to interact with other kids instead, my kids don't have access to the internet, in fact they would have to put a knife in my back to get access to the laptop. ITS ALL MINE, MINE YOU HEAR !!!! lol xx
They are good with proper supervision
I think they are all pathetic what ever the age, its a bit sad if you need to go on-line to meet so called friends. Another reason why the country is ****** people don't know how to interact, read, spell correctly and it all starts with giving children phones and letting them use Bebo etc. what are the parents doing??? Not being Parents for a start. I always love the answer well they have to have it don't they. Ever heard of the word NO. so please don't respond with that answer because mine will be "grow a pair".

Went of track there a bit but I hope you get my point.
It si up toparents to actually take notice of what thier kids are doing. Shifting responsiblity is just too easy nowadays.
The best place for children to make friends is playing out on the streets %26amp; at school. The usual, traditional ways.

We never made friends via computers did we?

I think the Internet is good for learning and information for kids, but to "make friends".. No.
There is no real need for kids to use these sites, but many will want to because all their friends do. I think children under a certain age - say 13 or 14 - shouldn't be allowed to use them. Those that do should be strongly monitored and their parents should make sure their profiles are completely private and any contacts are people they actually know, not strangers they have met over the internet.

See it at http://www.beseencafe.net/viabruce

Do you think there is profit potential for niche market social networking websites?celeb myspace myspace.com

i dont know but i heard myspace is estimated to be worth 15-20 billion dollars
It depends on how much services you can provide. How many sponsors can you get for your site. My sites are sponsored by advertisements and so is myspace. The most simple with no outlay method is to create your own websites or blogs @ blogger.com and put up your products' photos and services if you have any. If you can create websites or blogs and can type, you can make online money online easily. You may make money by publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If you have a website or a web-blog, you could make money by publishing advertisements on your site (by google). If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money. If you don't have a website, you may start creating web-blogs like blogger.com (mostly free) with advertisements (google ads) on it. Some free websites don't allow you to publish google adsense because they are doing it themself.

What attracts you to social networking sites and what features are still missing?

Report It

um what attracts..pretty much all the things on myspace...a profile that you can express who you are, pictures of yourself, songs, comments, messaging, instant messaging, and all that stuff.

stuff that needs work or i hate...is tops, i hate them because people fight over whos where on your top and I hate bullitens I mean there cool and everything but some of the things people post is wierd...What needs to change is your privacy and safety..youll get freind requests from people you dont even know and safety because alot of people put pics of them naked or in there underwear or something..
